Ever wondered how to start writing? Want to do a zine but don't know where to start? Vique Simba has been writing and publishing zines and columns/articles for many years and would love to help you figure all this [and more] out! We will cover the creative journey, discuss insecurities / vulnerability / ethics and the practical aspects of writing. This is a workshop to help you find your voice, discover what you want to write about, and how to make it all actually happen! (For age 14 and over)
About Vique Simba and her writing: Vique Simba will also introduce her book “Simba: A Collection of Personal and Political Writing from the 90s Hardcore Scene!”. This book started in 1992 as a traditional zine and morphed into one of the most popular and well-respected ‘emo’ zines of the 90’s hardcore scene. The book is comprised of 7 years of Simba zine that was published, plus 5 years of columns and articles from Heart Attack, Fracture, and Clamor Magazines. Vique Simba has been challenging gender roles, rules and assumptions about sex, friendship, and love, never afraid to discuss something “too personal”. Simba crossed the boundaries between the hardcore and riot grrl scenes and undoubtedly one of the most influential zines in the 90s.
